What is Nano (XNO)?

A digital currency built to move money the way it should move: instantly, and for free.

The short version

Nano is a cryptocurrency designed purely for payments. Sending Nano is confirmed in under a second, costs absolutely no transaction fee, and doesn't require mining. Its ticker symbol is XNO.

How it's different from Bitcoin

Most cryptocurrencies use a single shared blockchain, where every transaction competes for space and miners charge fees to include it. Nano instead gives every account its own individual chain — a structure called a block-lattice. Sending Nano only touches the sender's and receiver's own chains, so transactions confirm independently and don't queue behind anyone else's activity.

Because there's no mining and no proof-of-work race for block rewards, Nano also uses a tiny fraction of the energy of proof-of-work coins.

Feeless and instant, really

There is no protocol-level fee to send Nano — the amount you send is the amount that arrives. Confirmation typically happens in well under a second thanks to Nano's Open Representative Voting consensus, where a network of representatives vote to confirm transactions instead of racing to mine blocks.

What it's used for

Nano works well for anything where fees or delays would be a problem: tipping, small everyday payments, remittances, or simply moving value between wallets and exchanges without losing a cut to fees.

You can try a real Nano transaction for free right now with the faucet on the home page, then explore where to store it or trade it.
